Foundations Workshop opens to the public for the first time, 15 August
Until now, the Foundations Workshop was something a gym booked for its floor. On Saturday 15 August at the Red Shed, anyone can walk in for the first public session, free and coached by Olympic bronze medallist Jack Cleary.

Every Foundations Workshop that’s run so far has needed a gym behind it. Ten people minimum, a Saturday morning cleared on someone else’s calendar. If your gym never put its hand up, you never got a seat in the room.
That changes on Saturday 15 August. Row Nation is running its first public Foundations Workshop at the Red Shed on Black Mountain Peninsula, and this time nobody needs a gym’s sign-off to be in the room. It’s free. It’s open to anyone. And it’s the session the workshops kick off from.
No experience needed
You don’t need a rowing background to show up. The ninety minutes teach the pattern every stroke is built on: legs, body, arms, in that order, until three movements become one. Whether you’ve never touched an erg or you row already and want the fundamentals done properly, the class doesn’t assume where you’re starting from. It’s the same pattern Row Nation teaches gyms and teams, coached in person this time by Jack Cleary, an Olympic bronze medallist.
Be part of the story
There’s a second reason to get there early. We’re filming the day, and this is the session the public side of Foundations starts from. Show up on 15 August and you’re not just learning to row properly. You’re in the footage that becomes the story of how this began, told by the people who were actually there.
How to be part of it
Saturday 15 August, 11:00am to 12:30pm, at the Red Shed on Black Mountain Peninsula. Free. It’s a small group and spots are limited, so book ahead.
See the full listing on the Foundations Workshop page, or read the story of how the Foundations Workshop began on gym floors in July.
The workshop still runs the same way for gyms that book it. This one just doesn’t need a gym standing behind you to get in. Just a Saturday morning, and the willingness to learn a pattern that changes every stroke that follows it.

Dance class. Olympic podium. Your gym floor.
Jack Cleary's rowing story started with a knee injury that ended his dancing career at thirteen. The RowErg gave him back control and freedom long before it gave him an Olympic podium. That's why he's on the gym floor for Row Nation's Foundations workshops now.
